Gizmo is a small system tray utility program that watches the index pages of our information Web sites and alerts you when we update our pages.

When Windows starts up, Gizmo loads itself into your system tray and waits quietly for you to connect to the Internet.

Shortly after Gizmo discovers that you have established an Internet connection, Gizmo connects to our information Web sites and begins checking our index pages for changes.
|
|
If Gizmo detects there is new information on the Gizmo News page, it will open the page in its own mini-browser. The Gizmo News page keeps you informed about the latest Science News and Gizmo software updates and information.

If none of the index pages on our information Web sites have changed, Gizmo indicates that the pages have been checked and sits quietly in the system tray.
|
|
You can click the Gizmo system tray icon to open a pop up menu that allows you to configure Gizmo and visit our information Web sites with the click of the mouse.
|

If Gizmo detects a change on any of the index pages of our information Web sites, Gizmo alerts you by flashing a document icon in the system tray. You can click the icon for a list of changed pages.

Pages in which Gizmo has detected changes are indicated on the Gizmo pop up menu by check marks beside the Web site name. Clicking the Web site name in the pop up menu will open the Web site in your default Web browser.

If the Internet is congested and Gizmo has a problem connecting to our information Web sites, Gizmo will indicate the problem by displaying an error icon in the system tray. Gizmo will periodically attempt to reconnect to the Web sites until all of the assigned index pages are checked for changes.
