We captured this misplaced rodent in a safety trap, using peanut butter and chocolate Christmas candy as bait. The little critter desparately wanted out and kept pressing against the trap door, which just wedged the door tighter. This type of trap is great because it lets you capture critters without causing any injury to the critters you capture.

It didn't take long for her to realize she wasn't going to get out, so she settled down and sat quietly while we captured more video of her. The safety trap has teeny-tiny air holes in it and the sides of the safety trap were beginning to fog up a little.

It appeared that her breathing was becoming labored, so we transferred her to another container: a 1 quart jar with large holes punched in the lid. She had a little more room in the jar and took a little time to lick the peanut butter off of her teeny little hands and investigate her new space, side-to-side, top-to-bottom.

She kept trying to clean herself, but that yucky peanut butter just wouldn't go away. She seemed very curious about the holes punched in the jar lid. She is quite a jumper! Every time the holes in the jar lid caught her eye, she jumped up there to investigate.

Shortly after we captured this video, we took the little critter way out into the desert, which is her natural home. We found a nice bush mound for her and then we opened the jar for her to make her escape. She carefully crept to the mouth of the jar, sniffed the air, checking for predators, then she quickly scampered away and hid.
